Telenor Pakistan introduces a nationwide venture namely the Telenor Talkshawk I-Champ to empower a new digital generation in Pakistan.


The aim of Telenor Talkshawk I-Champ venture to assist young people to become future proponents in the digital age by providing them learning and training opportunities.

In order to accomplish Telenor Pakistan is going to collaborate with Government of the Punjab. Telenor will hold Internet workshops for class 8-10 students in 150 schools in the semi-urban and rural areas of Punjab.

As a part of the project a launching event was organized at Children’s Library Complex, which was attended by a large number of school children, their parents and teachers. The students were briefed on how the Internet works and how information can be searched for on internet-enabled mobile phones.

According to the Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly, Rana Mashhood Ahmad the government of the Punjab is devoted to supply its citizens with quality education.
Acting Chief Marketing Officer Telenor Pakistan, Usman Javed said,

“We are delighted to be partnering with the Government of Punjab to start promoting digital awareness among the youth of the province”.

The winner of the Telenor Talkshawk I-Champ final competition will get to visit Opera Labs in Norway to learn more about how the Internet is being used by people around the world to share knowledge.

CM Punjab Shahbaz Sharif at his official Facebook page posted a logical and fact based reply to Mubashar Luqman’s blatant lies and unclean propaganda against Laptop Scheme.

A scheme which has benefited merit scholars all over the country and has given laptops in the hands of those students who truly deserved them.

Transparency International has already declared the laptop scheme to be totally merit based and transparent.

Wateen Telecom, Pakistan’s leading converged communication service provider signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Punjab IT Board for enabling e-learning in the province.

Chief Minister Punjab, Mian Shahbaz Sharif and Naeem Zamindar, CEO Wateen Telecom signed the agreement at the PITB E-Government Exhibition held at Arfa Technology Park earlier today. With the agreement, Wateen Telecom will provision an e-learning portal for graduate and post-graduate students to access and gain vital educational content from. The online portal will include text books, past papers, solved past papers and tips for students on preparing for examinations.

 

This project aims at providing free access to education with just the click of a button and promises to leap-frog the country to economic progress and prosperity with a skilled and educated workforce. In order for students to access this portal in universities and colleges, Wateen intends to provide the facility of Wi-Fi Hotspots. These Wi-Fi Hotspots will be free to access for students, to help them in their education and research. This portal is a small step towards realizing Wateen’s vision of enabling every man, woman and child in Pakistan through leading edge technology.

 

With growing online access, the youth of Pakistan faces a dearth of quality education. Currently government spends on the education sector are limited. This ultimately means that through leading edge technology, Wateen Telecom will change the traditional way of learning, replacing it with a more convenient and a quick way of gratifying the thirst for knowledge.

 

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr. Naeem Zamindar CEO Wateen Telecom said that

 

“With better online access, Wateen envisions that a student in Chichawatni can have access to the same education available at Harvard or Cambridge. Today we are creating an opportunity for students of tomorrow to benefit from and improve Pakistan economically and socially.”

 

The e-Government Exhibition, hosted by PITB, was visited by over one thousand students from various schools and universities. All the main ICT firms, including Wateen, participated in the exhibition with their stalls accessible for the general public.

The laptops, which Punjab Government distributed among the brilliant students, run on the “Ubunto” (OS) operating system instead of Microsoft Windows mostly used in Pakistan.

An English company has developed the installed operating system of Ubunto. The use of this operating system is very intricate as compared to Microsoft Windows.

 

The installation of operating system (OS) “Ubunto” has put students of education institutes in problem due to unfamiliarity with new OS.

According to Computer experts, there is a big difference if we make a comparison between Window XP, Window 7 and Ubunto OS.

 

“Ubunto OS is generally used for editing of picture and film, but there are lots of problems being faced by students when they open various programs or do multitasking on the system.”

“Ubunto is a quality OS but it’s not a friendly one.”

“Technicians charge a big amount of money if we install another operating system in laptops.”

Mian Mohammad Shahbaz Sharif  has claimed of employing better government through E-governance in the province, which has benefited the public.


Chief Minister, while talking to a four-member delegation led by Zong Chief Executive Officer in Pakistan Mr. Fan Yunjun, said Punjab government is working on a comprehensive program to enhance Information Technology (IT) industry in the province.
He said that the world class IT university is being established in Lahore, which is providing world class education in various departments of Information Technology (IT).
Shahbaz Sharif further added that there is a lot of room for development and expansion for IT industry in Punjab and investment in this department is attractive as well as safe.
Punjab government steps to boost IT industry in the province was appreciated by Zong Chief Executive officer Mr. Fan Yunjun.
Mr. Fan Yunjun said that the company would continue co-operation in this regard.
Mr. Fan Yunjun outlined that his company is introducing branch less banking in the province and an endowment fund for the students as well.

In order to make the online system more efficient and modernized the Government of Punjab has assigned 50 IT experts in eight education boards.

The newly assigned 50 IT experts have directed by Education Department and Punjab Technology Board to report in eight educational boards of the province.

Today was the last date for submission of admission forms for Intermediate Part I which has been extended to 6th March.

According to sources, last date is extended because number of admission forms submitted till the last date with single fee remained 40 % low as compared to the previous year.

The newly appointed IT experts are assigned the task to correct online system and to train the staff in this regard.

Fifteen experts have arrived in Faisalabad Board and have commenced working to rationalize the online system for submission of admission forms.

 

Scores of students from different private and public colleges could not submit their entrance forms and a large number of private students could not upload their forms by e-mail.
